This week marked another amazing year of PCMA's signature international event, Convening Leaders, where about 4,000 meeting and event planners gathered in Pittsburgh to discuss the future of our ever-changing industry. Check out some of the Aventri team's highlights from yet another successful conference.
A Fabulous Speaker Line-Up
Once again, Convening Leaders included several amazing speakers throughout the four-day event, from tennis-champ Billie Jean King to Seth Godin of Seth Godin Productions. It seemed like many attendees were especially blown away by actor and activist Geena Davis' closing session about female inclusion and representation, a hot topic in the events industry today. "You have to be deliberate and set goals," she said. "Don't just take the easy way out and invite the same people who've always spoken."
Taking on Tough Subjects
During a panel discussion, planners at Convening Leaders took on some not so easy, but important world issues: homelessness and sex trafficking. In the case of homelessness, addressing the issue is “critical to the future of this industry and the sustainability of travel and tourism communities,” Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel, said. Although some grim statistics were shared about these issues, the session was focused on how solutions to those problems can come through the business events industry.
Connecting Better Over a Beer
Monday night, Aventri partnered with ATS and ExecutiveEvents to host a networking event on the rooftop bar at Sienna Mercato. The 360-degree photography booth was a big hit, as many fake mustaches were worn. Shout out to the team from Sciensio, the event bot company, for tolerating Aventri's Brad Langley’s company throughout the night. Aside from the company and the interactions, the free beer growlers were the biggest hit of the night. We're looking forward to seeing you all next year!
