Like many in the meeting and event industry, we're still winding down from the craziness and fun that was IMEX America 2019, one of the biggest industry events of the year. This is also usually a time were attendees and exhibitors alike reflect on what they learned at the show and what makes attending the conference every year a great experience.
This was a special conference year for me, as it was not only the first time I attended IMEX with Aventri, but also the first time I organized any event for our company since taking on new responsibilities this past summer. Here are some of my top highlights from this year's show!
The Busiest IMEX Yet
Seeing that an estimated 13,000 attendees were at IMEX America this year, I'm sure many would say it was busy three days! That was certainly the case for Aventri, where, according to our estimates, we doubled the number of appointments we had compared to last year. It made for a especially engaging booth from the time the exhibition opened to closing each day.
Event Tech Over Coffee
In between meetings, our in-booth coffee bar was a big hit for everyone who stopped by to learn more about everything Aventri has to offer. It was a great way to welcome visitors whether they knew us well or were hearing about us for the first time. To support IMEX's sustainability efforts, brews were handed out in our branded, reusable coffee cups made of bamboo.
Celebrating with Meetingmax
The big news for Aventri at IMEX America this year was our announcement that we completed our integration with Meetingmax, the industry's most sophisticated room block management software solution! This integration enables event planners to easily identify attendees who have registered for an event – but not booked a room yet – and encourage them to do so. The result is an increase in pick-up rate and revenue; and users no longer need to toggle back and forth between the two platforms.
To celebrate, Aventri and Meetingmax hosted a special happy hour followed by a dinner at Bazaar Meat by Jose Andres for IMEX attendees on Tuesday night. It was certainly the most memorable night of the entire conference!
Putting Names to Faces
Events are all about bringing people together, because nothing beats meeting face-to-face. In my case, I finally got the chance to meet several industry influencers I have been in touch with via phone or email for years, including Will Curran and Brandt Krueger from #EventIcons, Alex Plaxen of Little Bird Told Media and Carmen Boscolo from Event Manager Blog.
Packed Speaking Sessions
This year, we had two speaking sessions at IMEX and we were excited to see them both full of interested attendees in the Research Pod! The first was with our CRO Michael Burns and Alex Plaxen about how event planners are using social media and our second was about the latest event tech trends with our Director of Account Management, KC Bolcome.
