Make Your Mobile App a Loyalty Hub for Attendees

So many planners know it's essential to go the extra mile to turn new attendees into loyal ones by showcasing that your event is worth the time, money and effort to return in the years to come.

Technology is key to facilitating this loyalty, especially when it comes to your event's mobile app. With features such as push notifications, in-app messaging, agenda building, and automatic syncing with your event management software, it's the perfect place to maintain communication with your attendees, show event value, and to encourage them to come back.

Here are some things you can do to turn your standard event mobile app into a loyalty hub for attendees.

Have your app compliment your networking experiences

Networking is usually a top motivator to attend an event, and mobile apps, especially when paired with Smart Tag technology, can make it easy. First, include an attendee list and enable in-app private messaging so attendees can easily find each other to connect. Next, find an app provider that has matchmaking services to pair up like-minded attendees, which does all the heavy lifting of finding people to connect with in a click of a button. Finally, with those Smart Tags, attendees can share contact information in seconds and refer back to that information directly in the app. These are little conveniences that are not only appreciated by attendees, but they'll love returning to an event that offers a high-tech networking experience.

Make it a central place for resources

From speaker slide decks to exhibitor contact information, the more resources your attendees can look back on in your app post-event the better. Whenever they want to show a colleague highlights of an informative presentation or need to find the email of a vendor they wish to speak with, they'll turn to your app in the days and weeks following your event. This shows attendees that the benefits of attending your event aren't only onsite, as they can refer back to what they learned and the people they met in an easy and accessible way.

Keep it updated in between events

With content in mind, another way to develop loyalty using your app is to keep it updated throughout the year, not just during the event. You want attendees to keep your app on their phones, and if it's dormant and the content is stale, they may go ahead and delete it. Even if it's once a week or a couple of times a month, adding articles, videos and the latest news about your event will keep your app fresh and worth keeping on attendees' phones. Send out regular push notifications with the latest updates to alert attendees and to keep your event on their minds.

Offer incentives or rewards for app usage

Along with making some of that content app exclusive, you can also give users special incentives for using the app and keeping it on their devices, such as early-bird ticket prices, special discounts and coupon codes (not to mention it's a great monetization opportunity with sponsors!). During the event, today's mobile apps also have gamification options like scavenger hunts or the ability to earn badges or rewards. Overall, attendees love to feel special, and even the little things like saving money or being recognized for engaging at your event will keep your attendees coming back!
